School Time in Haiti!!!

Our First Day of School

4th Grade Class Brazil Room
Well, its that time of year again in Haiti. The kids are back out there hurrying to their schools, and the school bells are once again ringing to remind them that they are late. The Flags are going up the polls and the Teachers are counting the minutes to break time.
We are excited here at HGM having a school back open and this year with a new addition. In previous years we have only had up to 5th grade therefore not having a fully functioning  Elementary     school. This year are able to hold on to last years 5th graders in our 6th grade. It is very exciting. The true test for any school in Haiti is  the quality of the preschool and the 6th grade class.

Also, We are very blessed to have recieved funds from individuals that want to see these kids have books to work with. For those of you that gave towards this, kids that have never had a book to work out of before, are now using them in their class and taking them home to study
(We Hope: )

We want to thank all of you that are sponosring a child this year. We have close to 30 kids that are recieving and free education thanks to you supporters in the States.

Also, we want to once again thank our summer team from Missouri for all the work they did to   get us ready for the school year. Here are some of the finished classes that these kids get to walk into every day.

Thank you all and thanks for your prayers also.

God Bless

Thank You !!!

I want to thank all of you that have given towards the books for the school. There are so mnay opportunities for you to get involved, and we appreciate the response you have given towards this project. We have many more books to purchase but its so great the we are able to start.
Also, we would like to continue preparing for the school in other areas. In an earlier post I wrote about the need for a basketball court. If there are those of you who would like to give towards this, one way to get us started is just getting the hoops. Each hoop is $42 and we need 6 of them. Please consider this project along with the books for this school year.
Seeing these kids come to school each year has been a real blessing. Improving their surroundings and providing a good education with Christian values is one way that we can work towards helping this generation of kids turn to God and make a difference in Haiti. Please pray with us as we are getting ready for the school year to begin. We want to see God do a great work. Thanks you again and please keep these projects in mind. God Bless

Book Drive!!!

For this school year HGM is working towards getting some much needed books for the School. Most of the kids that come to our school or any school in Haiti many times do not have the money to buy their own books. We would like to get a book system that allows each child to have their own book and at the end of the year turn it in for the next years students.Below is a list of books and their prices. As you can see many of these books are inexpensive. We need your help in purchasing these much needed tools for learning. We already have some people interested in purchasing books and would love for you to get involved also. Thanks for taking interest!!

Basketball Court Project

As some of you may know, we are going to be starting a new ministry here in Despinos with our sports program based off of  the Upward Sports program. We believe this will open up new opportunities to reach our local community. To begin with, we will be working out  a Basketball program.
The first step to this beyound the planning is getting a court. We would like to build a court large enough for games and practice to include 6 goals. This will be used for the teaching side of the program and then for the games. We would like this to be a sharp looking court as a way of attracting the parents and local community to come and watch. The biggest part of the Upwards program is the devotions and preaching that is done during practice and games.
The Total cost of the court is $1700.00
This will pay for the materials, baskets and lights for night games as it is generally to hot play during the day and it gets dark here earlier that up north. I believe this will be a great way to reach out to
these kids. We want this to be fun, but also a new way to teach kids about Jesus Christ.
Please help us in raising the funds for the ministry. Thank You and God Bless!!!

School imporvements

Well, its almost time for the school year again. At HGM we are getting our Mission School in Despinos ready. We had a team here at the beginning of July from Joplin Missouri. Our very own alumn Jesse Hales led the team with his wife Rebecca. It was a great week. We started right off with school improvements. The school was looking very run down, and was in need of some TLC. Our team came in ready to work. The first 2 days we spent painting and decorating the school rooms. The above picture was the 3rd grade class room and to the left the 5th grade room. As you can see from these picture the rooms needed a face lift. By the end of 2 days we we able to see the progress start in getting these classes ready. The team also gave funds towards busting out the block in each class rooms windows and replacing it with metal. It is such an improvement. The widows came today and the boss got to work right away getting them set in the windows. We want to thank each of the members of the team and also our 2 Carolina girls for coming with them. You all did such a great job. Thank You!! And God Bless.

Traveling Abroad

Hello everyone, its been awhile since we have given an update. There has been so many things happening since the last post.
Currently, Joel is in the states traveling for the mission. HGM is trying to raise more interest and support for the ministry here. If there is anyone interested in hearing an up date or would like to have a first time visit for the work in Haiti, please call Gloria @ 704-616-3141. We want to thank the churches that have been so accomidating. We appreciate the opportunity you have given for him to come and represent the needs and possibilities in Haiti. We believe God will continue to provide for the Mission and for the Hess family.
Johnny and Sandra Craft were able to come to Haiti for a visit. Its always great having members of the mission come to Haiti and visit with their friends and work along side the Haitians.

Currently in Haiti, the clinic has grown to the point that we are seeing on average 50 patients daily monday thru thursday. April has done such a great job leading and teaching the workers to provide a well functioning clinic. God has been blessing in so many ways. Jessica Martin will be joining the Mission fulltime at the end of the month. We are wery excited about her coming there to work in the clinic in the pharmacy. Please be praying for the Hess family and the adoption of Michael. Thanks to all of you and you prayers and support. God Bless, The HGM Team.
